Stream restoration projects under way on two creeks in the Ochoco Mountains
The four-legged contraption - known as spider excavator - swivels on its base to pick up a massive boulder. Sparks fly from the rock's surface as the claw attempts to get a firm grip. Once it's in place, the machine hoists the rock into the air like it's a hunk of Styrofoam, places it carefully on the bank of Dick Creek and goes back for another. Suddenly, a heavy snow begins to fall and the spider's operator begins singing, la Bing Crosby, "I'm dreaming, of a white Christmas."
